Kindlella was named by Sohn (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-l P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 2,74,648]. Its type is Kindlella fissiloba.

It was assigned to Kellettininae by Sohn (1954); to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kellettinidae by Hoare and Merrill (2004).
