Taxonomy
Aeshna cerdanica was named by Nel and Martínez-Delclòs (1994). Its type specimen is MNHN-LP-R.10402, a hindwing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Coll de Saig (Bellver de Cerdanya, MNHN collection), which is in a Vallesian/Turolian lacustrine claystone in Spain.
