Taxonomy
Aeshna stavropolensis was named by Nel et al. (2005). Its type specimen is PIN 254/2148, a hindwing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Vishnevaya Balka creek, Karagan, Stavropol (PIN collection 254), which is in a Miocene lacustrine shale in the Karagan Formation of the Russian Federation.
