Thaumatomma was named by Kornicker and Sohn (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was assigned to Myodocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Thaumatocyprididae by Sohn and Kornicker (1998), Sebe et al. (2013).
