Polioptenus willerti was named by Guthörl (1930). Its type specimen is Slg. d. Verf. 355, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Friedrichstal railway cut, which is in a Westphalian terrestrial horizon in Germany.
It was recombined as Arltia willerti by Replace (1931), Guthörl (1934).
