Saarlandia was named by Guthörl (1930). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Saarlandiidae.

It was assigned to Saarlandiidae by Guthörl (1930), Guthörl (1934); to Stenodictyopteridae by Laurentiaux (1953); and to Palaeodictyoptera by Carpenter (1992).
