Cavussurella was named by Gramm (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr u Sepkoski's reference number: ZR88]. Its type is Cavussurella kramtchanini.

It was assigned to Ussuricavininae by Gramm (1969), Sohn (1987); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
