Chrysomelites rothenbachi was named by Heer (1877). It is an impression. Its type locality is Rutihard, near Basel, which is in a Carnian terrestrial horizon in Switzerland.

It was recombined as Pseudochrysomelites rothenbachi by Handlirsch (1906).
