Taxonomy

Interatherium was named by Ameghino (1887). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Interatheriinae.

It was assigned to Protypotheridae by Ameghino (1894); and to Interatheriidae by Ameghino (1887), Sinclair (1908), Carroll (1988), Kramarz et al. (2010), Vizcaíno et al. (2022).
