It was synonymized subjectively with Zetemenos by Ponomarenko (1992); it was reranked as Helophorus (Mesosperchus) by Fikáček et al. (2012) and Ponomarenko (2014).
It was assigned to Hydrophilidae by Ponomarenko (1977), Ponomarenko (1985) and Carpenter (1992); and to Helophorus by Fikáček et al. (2012) and Ponomarenko (2014).
