Taxonomy
Eocardia elliptica was named by Ameghino (1891). It is the type species of Eocardia (Procardia), Eoprocardia.

It was recombined as Eocardia (Procardia) eliptica by Ameghino (1891); it was recombined as Procardia elliptica by Ameghino (1894); it was recombined as Eoprocardia elliptica by Trouessart (1904).
