Harpalus heeri was named by Giebel (1856). It is an impression. Its type locality is Hasfield, which is in a Rhaetian marine horizon in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Stigmenamma.
It was recombined as Stigmenamma heeri by Handlirsch (1906), Kirejtshuk et al. (2016).
