Paramacrocypris was named by Kozur (1985) [Sepkoski's age data: P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 648].

It was assigned to Acratiidae by Kozur (1985); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bairdiidae by Crasquin (2008), Tanaka (2018), Kolar-Jurkovšek et al. (2024).
