Taxonomy
Microbiotherium tehuelchum was named by Ameghino (1887). Its type specimen is MLP 11-36, a mandible (nearly complete right mandibular ramus with p2-m4 complete), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Cruz Formation, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in the Santa Cruz Formation of Argentina.

  • Phonocdromus patagonicus was named by Ameghino (1894). Its type specimen is MACN 5741, a mandible (left mandibular ramus with partial dentition), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Observatorio, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in the Santa Cruz Formation of Argentina.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Microbiotherium tehuelchum by Marshall (1982).
  • Halmarhiphus didelpoides was named by Ameghino (1891).
