Abia kochi was named by Geinitz (1888). It is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany.
It was recombined as Solenoptilon kochi by Handlirsch (1906), Martynova (1949).
