Phascolonus lemleyi was named by Archer (1976). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bluff Downs, which is in a Zanclean fluvial-lacustrine limestone in the Allingham Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Ramsayia lemleyi by Louys (2015).
