Taxonomy
Sthenurus stirlingi was named by Wells and Tedford (1995). Its type specimen is SAM P22533, a skeleton (nearly-complete adult skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lake Callabonna Fossil Reserve, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Australia.
