Nambaroo gillispieae was named by Kear et al. (2007). Its type specimen is QM F35432, a partial skeleton (near complete skull (lacking premaxillary region), left dentary and postcranial skeleton including incomplete vertebral series, scapulae, pelvis, fore- and hind), and it is a 3D body fossil.
