Miocochilius anomopodus

Miocochilius anomopodus was named by Stirton (1953) [Holotype: UCMP 38409. Skeleton nearly complete. Cranium; mandible; all cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae preserved but some are badly crushed; sacrum; eigth caudal vertebrae but with terminal ones missing; most of the fourteen ribs; five sternal bones represented; left fore limb complete, except median phalanx III, and ungual phalanges II, III, and IV; and most of rigth fore limb preserved; pelvis; left hind limb but cuboid missing; foot missing from rigth hind limb.

Dental formula: I3/3; C1/1; P4/4; M3/3
]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UCMP 38409, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Miocochilius.

Stirton 1953 | CraniUm elongate and relatively narrow, particulary in rostral region, as compared with Protypotherium; or short diastems between I1 and I2, between I2 and I3, between I3 and C, between C and P4; labial face of upper molars relatively smooth; teeth coated with cement; frontals not conspicuously flattened between orbits; faint indication of descendig process of maxillary at anterior end of zygomatic arch; anterior end of palatine opposite posterior half of P3; base of M1-3 within the orbit; bullae not inflated; mastoid apparently not inflated; anterior end of palatine bone opposite to M1.
Brain with suprasylvian sulcus prominent; marginal area along longitudinal scissure narrow; rather bulbous expansion of ectosylvian area, lateral constriction of midbrain and deep transverse sinus, with possible overlapping of cerebral hemispheres; olfeatory pedicles greatly constricted laterally. Mandible with i2-i3 in line with cheek teeth; p1 vertical; diastems between p1 and p2. In juvenile dp3 with one faint labian and two lingual inflections. Digits II and III functional in manus, digit IV complete but greatly reduced, digits I and V lost; Digits III and V functional in pes; Digit V represented by vestige of metatarsal; digit I and II and mesocuneiform lost. |
