Taxonomy
Spathobatis mutterlosei was named by Thies (1983). Its type specimen is SMF 7157, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Uppen, Böschung der BAB, km. 183, which is in a Kimmeridgian marine marl in Germany.
