Ampeliptera was named by Pruvost (1927). It is the type genus of Ampelipteridae.
It was assigned to Hapalopteridae by Pruvost (1927); to Protorthoptera by Carpenter (1992); and to Ampelipteridae by Haupt (1941), Shcherbakov (1994) and Brauckmann et al. (1996).
