Taxonomy
Megakhosara simplex was named by Sharov (1961). Its type specimen is PIN 1197/27, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Kaltan (PIN collection 1197), which is in a Roadian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Mitina Formation of the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Megakhosarina simplex by Storozhenko (1993), Storozhenko (1998) and Storozhenko and Aristov (2014).
