Praeconocaryomma was named by Pessagno (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett K Camp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 156,763]. It is the type genus of Praeconocaryommidae.

It was assigned to Praeconocaryommidae by Hull (1997); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
