Nothofagidites fortispinulosus was named by Menendez and Caccavari (1975). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Prep. pal N° 504, a non-seed repro (Pollen grain), and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts.

C. A. Menendez and M. A. Caccavari 1975Granos isopolares estefanocolpados , peroblados, de 22 (24.6) 27.6 µ de diámetro, amb subcircular a circular o subangular. Colpos en número de 5 (6) 7, con una profundidad de 2.3 (3.3) 5 µ y un engrosamiento de 1.15 (1.32) 2 µ. La exina con un espesor de 0.5 (0.59) 0.8 µ entre los colpos, se presenta densamente espinosa con espinas fuertes de aproximadamente 0.8 a 0.1 µ de diámetro basal y 0.6 a 0.8 µ de largo, con una densidad de 48.6 (57.6) 72.9 en 100 µ²
