Notochrysa praeclara was named by Statz (1936). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Statz Collection), which is in a Chattian lacustrine - small shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Nothochrysa praeclara by Adams (1967), Makarkin et al. (2018).
