Asteracarpus was named by Anzótegui and Herbst (2004) [Derivatio nominis: El nombre Asteracarpus alude a la familia Asteraceae y al estado de fruto de los capítulos.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Asteracarpus gomezbelloi.

It was assigned to Asteraceae by Anzótegui and Herbst (2004).
