Asteracarpus gomezbelloi

Taxonomy
Asteracarpus gomezbelloi was named by Anzótegui and Herbst (2004) [The valid name is Asteracarpus gomez-belloi.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is CTES-PB 12104a, a seed/fruit, and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Río Seco, which is in a Miocene coarse channel fill sandstone/siltstone in the San José Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Asteracarpus.

L. M. Anzótegui and R. Herbst 2004Capítulo pedunculado al estado de fruto. Receptáculo circular o subcircular, plano-convexo con impresiones de aquenios o de paleas. Las impresiones de los aquenios son pequeñas depresiones pentagonales a hexagonales dispuestas helicoidalmente. Las paleas irradian desde un sector levemente excéntrico, cada una tiene los ápices mucronados y vena media fuerte. Involucro formado por aproximadamente 12 filarios oblongos, cada uno con los ápices redondeados a obtusos y bases desconocidas; los filarios tienen 3 venas principales, la central es más fuerte, ellas se relacionan por cortas dicotomías.
