Heteropoda was named by Latreille (1804). It is extant. It is the type genus of Heteropodinae.
It was assigned to Eusparassidae by Zhang et al. (1994); to Sparassidae by Dunlop et al. (2013); and to Heteropodinae by Wheeler et al. (2017).
