Caberea was named by d'Orbigny (1851) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Scrupocellariidae by Stach (1936), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953), Brown (1956), Brown (1958); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Candidae by Lee et al. (1997), Schmidt (2003), Bock (2006), Gordon (2012), Di Martino and Taylor (2014).
