Taxonomy
Sciara prisca was named by Germar (1839). It is an impression. Its type locality is Solnhofen (BSPGM Munich coll), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Ephemera prisca by Hagen (1862); it was recombined as Mesephemera prisca by Handlirsch (1906), Demoulin (1955), Ponomarenko (1985) and Willmann (2007).
