Coscinopleura was named by Marsson (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is the type genus of Coscinopleuridae.
It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coscinopleuridae by Bassler (1953), Bock (2006).
