Rhabdothemis strigivena was named by Handlirsch (1939). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany. It is the type species of Rhabdothemis, Rhabdothemis.
