Orthophlebia gracilis was named by Handlirsch (1939). It is an impression. Its type locality is Strensham, Worcestershire (Museum of Practical Geology coll), which is in a Rhaetian marine horizon in the Lilstock Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was synonymized subjectively with Orthophlebia liassica by Martynova (1948).
