Laurieipterus was named by Kjellesvig-Waering (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 360,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Stylonurus elegans.
It was corrected as Laurieopterus by Sepkoski (2002).
It was assigned to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); to Laurieipterinae by Lamsdell et al. (2010); and to Stylonuridae by Dunlop et al. (2013), Dunlop et al. (2020), Lamsdell (2025).
