Taxonomy
Microcavia aua was named by Mones and Castiglioni (1979). Its type specimen is 683 MNHN-DP, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Playa Pascual, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Uruguay.
