Zygopini was named by Lacordaire (1865). It is extant. Its type is Zygops.

It was reranked as the subfamily Zygopinae by Zimmerman (1971).

It was assigned to Curculionidae by Zimmerman (1971); to Conoderinae by Davis and Engel (2006), Bouchard et al. (2011) and Poinar and Legalov (2014); and to Conoderitae by Legalov (2015).
