Taxonomy
Elaterium murchisoni was named by Giebel (1856). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Creech, between Corfe and Wareham, which is in a Lutetian pond claystone in the Poole Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Elaterites murchisoni by Cockerell (1920), Kundrata et al. (2021).
