Taxonomy
Stenotabanus oleariorum was named by Strelow et al. (2013). Its type specimen is SMNS Mx 245, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber (SMNS collection), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in the Mazantic Shale Formation of Mexico.
