Taxonomy

Hemerobites antiquus was named by Germar (1813). Its type specimen is GPIUH 3484, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (Halle collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Termes antiquus by Giebel (1856), Hagen (1858); it was recombined as Termes (Eutermes) antiquus by Pictet and Hagen (1856); it was recombined as Leucotermes antiquus by von Rosen (1913); it was recombined as Reticulitermes antiquus by Snyder (1949), Weidner (1955), Nel and Paicheler (1993), Engel et al. (2007), Krishna et al. (2013).

Synonyms

Termes obscurus was named by Giebel (1856). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (Halle collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was replaced with Termes (Eutermes) moestus by Giebel (1856).
Maresa plebeja was named by Giebel (1856). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (Ouchakoff collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was synonymized subjectively with Termes antiquus by Hagen (1858); it was synonymized subjectively with Reticulitermes antiquus by Snyder (1949), Krishna et al. (2013).
Termes fossile was named by Ouchakoff (1838). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (Ouchakoff collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
