Bryomyia was named by Kieffer (1895). It is extant. It is the type genus of Bryomyini.
It was assigned to Campylomyzini by Felt (1911); to Bryomyini by Berest (1993); and to Bryomyiini by Fedotova and Perkovsky (2007) and Gagné and Jaschhof (2014).
