Didactylomyia was named by Felt (1911). It is extant. It is the type genus of Didactylomyiina.
It was assigned to Stomatosematidi by Fedotova and Perkovsky (2011), Gagné and Jaschhof (2014); and to Didactylomyiina by Fedotova and Perkovsky (2015).
