Taxonomy
Meiatermes hariolus was named by Grimaldi (2008). Its type specimen is AMNH Sa-122, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Crato (AMNH collection), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large carbonate in the Crato Formation of Brazil.
