Pleciomima porthos was named by Kovalev (1990). Its type specimen is PIN 3795/959, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shev'ya site (PIN collection 3795), which is in a Tithonian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Ukurei Formation of the Russian Federation.
