Isotoma was named by Bourlet (1839). It is extant. It is the type genus of Isotomidae, Isotomoidea, Isotominae.
It was assigned to Isotomidae by Laurentiaux (1953) and Mari Mutt (1983); and to Isotominae by Sánchez-García and Engel (2016).
