Soriacebus was named by Fleagle et al. (1987). Its type is Soriacebus ameghinorum. It is the type genus of Soriacebinae.

It was assigned to Platyrrhini by Fleagle (1990); to Platyrrhini by Flynn et al. (1995); and to Soriacebinae by Kay (2010).
