K. K. Tarasenko and A. V. Lopatin 2012 | Small-sized Herpetocetinae, with body about 2.5–3 m long. Zygomatic processes of squamosals narrow, elongated, curved ventromedially. Postglenoid processes with wide base, transversely compressed, and directed laterally. Posterior edges of squamosals extending posteriorly farther than level of occipital condyles and looking like dorsoventrally compressed rectangular plate covering dorsally lateral margins of exoccipitals. Sigmoid crest not covering zygomo-postglenoid angle and caudal surface of postglenoid process base (more than half length of caudal surface of postglenoid process base remaining open). Posterolateral projection of posterior process of petrosal on lateral wall of skull forming even flat trapeziform surface, with its wide base turned upwards. Dorsal part of petrosal body rounded square; endolymphatic and perilymphatic foramina narrow, extended, and fused, forming united drop-shaped aperture; lateral edge of petrosal body strongly convex. |
