Taxonomy
Giraldiella was named by Williams (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-u S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25,1075. Bancroft in Williams 1951.]. Its type is Orthis protensa. It is the type genus of Giraldiellidae.

It was assigned to Plectorthidae by Williams (1951); to Giraldiellidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
