Bounodus enigmaticus
Taxonomy
Bounodus enigmaticus was named by Carlini et al. (2006). Its type specimen is AMU-CURS 44, a maxilla (fragment of right maxilla, with P4—M3 and the alveolus of the P3, part of the maxillar lateral wall and palatal roof.), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Urumaco, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in the Urumaco Formation of Venezuela. It is the type species of Bounodus.
