Taxonomy
Atocatle ranulfoi was named by Feldmann et al. (1998). Its type specimen is IGM-6535 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Site IGM-2513, Tlayúa Quarry (CONACyT quarry 1), which is in an Albian/Albian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Tlayúa Formation of Mexico. It is the type species of Atocatle.
