Archaea paradoxa was named by Koch and Berendt (1854). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.

Archaea laevigata was named by Koch and Berendt (1854). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.

It was synonymized subjectively with Archaea paradoxa by Wunderlich (2004), Dunlop et al. (2013).
